During the year the first graders participate in the Pizza Hut Book-It program. They are required to read four books each month and write two sentences about each book. Students who complete the assignments each month from October through March are invited to participate in the First Grade Pizza Party which is held at the school during April.
In May the first grade classes enjoy a field trip to the Glen Oak Zoo and Lakeview Planetarium in Peoria. They enjoy seeing a large variety of animals in the morning. After going to the zoo a sack lunch is eaten on the lawn of Glen Oak Park. In the afternoon the students are awed by the presentation at the Lakeview Planetarium. |
