News from November and December

Each year the first grade students decorate gingerbread houses.  We receive many compliments from people who enjoy viewing them.

We appreciate all the goodies that are donated and mothers who came to help us with our gingerbread houses.

November News

In November all the first graders learn special Thanksgiving songs and learn to choral read the story of The First Thanksgiving.  They perform this for other classes in the school as well as the residents at Heartland Health Care Center.

The first graders gather together just like the Pilgrims and Indians and enjoy a Thanksgiving feast.  To prepare for the feast each child makes a placemat listing what they are thankful for and brings a food item to share. They wear hats and necklaces and come to the feast dressed as Pilgrims and Indians. During first grade activity day the students construct a tin can turkey.

December News

December is a busy month in the First Grade classrooms.  We collect items for the Red Stocking Fund and learn that sharing makes us feel good.  Our music program is held each December in the school gymnasium.  We decorate gingerbread houses.  If you would like to see them, they will be on display at the Henry-Senachwine Grade School.  The students sing special Christmas songs at the Heartland Health Care Center to bring Christmas cheer to the residents.  Our classroom parties are held on the last school day before Christmas vacation.  School  dismisses at 2:15 that day.

Have a Wonderful Holiday!!
